Fleet Racing is a special event in the annual Leisure Games, where six teams (one recently raised to seven) compete and bet against each other. The nation’s top guilds and mercenary companies participate in Fleet Racing, recruiting members months in advance. The race is not only fast-paced (with numerous skips), it is also dangerous, with its own set of rules to make things even more enjoyable. There are many types of betting for Fleet Racing; one popular type allows the winner to walk away with the losing team’s ships without consequence.
Purpose
The purpose of Fleet Racing is simple. The winning team at the end of each event gets to keep the losing team’s ships. This betting style adds a whole new level to Fleet Racing since it can be dangerous trying to win a race when you know that a single loss might take your ship away from you!
Types of Ships
While the Leisure Games are meant for fun, Fleet Racing is a different story. Every team participating in this type of racing will bring ships armed with every kind of weapon and armor known to man. Smaller ships like cutters and scouts can easily dodge slow-moving cannons, while bigger ships like hulks and super freighters are armed to the teeth with weapons. Ships come in all shapes, sizes, speeds, armaments, and compositions. As you can imagine, not every ship is suited for Fleet Racing.
The rules of Fleet Racing are simple; the team that crosses the finish line first stays alive. If you win a leg before your teammates do, you must retire and allow them to cross instead. Whoever crosses the finish line last (if anyone) is eliminated from Fleet Racing entirely. At times like these it is important to realize that even if your ship is armed to the teeth, it doesn’t mean you’ll win. Power and speed can be taken away at any time by a single well-placed shot from an opposing ship.
Bets
Each team will bet on themselves and an opposing team before the race. There are many types of bets, but you can’t just place any kind of bet with whoever you want. You must speak to a Leisure Games Official before you place a bet, and most officials won’t allow bets to be placed until they have inspected your shipment. The types of bets you can make are:
Bet Categories
You can place bets on your team’s performance in several categories. The higher your team finishes in these categories seems to affect how much money you win, so you may want to bet on categories in which you are strong. The different betting categories are:
-Most kills
-Podium finish (3rd place or higher)
-Most damage taken
-Most kills by an individual player
-Highest average speed across all legs
A Leisure Games Official will provide you with a small betting slip and may even mark your bet for you. Just fill out the form and take it to an official; if they approve your bet, they will seal it and stamp your card with the team’s flag. Once all bets are approved, the official will hand each player their sealed betting slip which can be opened at the end of the race.
-Types of Race
There are many types of races involved in Fleet Racing. Some teams will specialize in certain types of races, while others will have a well-rounded team that is good at everything. Some of the most popular races are:
-Regular Race
This is just your traditional race around the track. -Shooting Gallery
This type of race requires teams to shoot targets as they pass by them and then collecting them after hitting the targets.
-Ring Race
You must fly through rings as they appear around the course. The rings are usually placed in hard-to-reach places which makes it harder to hit them, but there are more points to be awarded for hitting each ring.
